Installing your Outline access key
Your access key looks like ss://...@host:port/?outline=1. It was emailed to you after your license request was approved.
1. Install the Outline client
- Download the Outline client for your device from getoutline.org — available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
- Install and open the app.
2. Add your access key
- Copy the full access key from the email you received (starts with
ss://). - Open the Outline client. On first launch it will prompt you to add a server — paste the key there.
- If a server is already configured, click the + button (desktop) or "Add server" (mobile) and paste the key when prompted.
- The client will validate the key and add the server automatically — you don't need to enter host/port manually.
3. Connect
- Select the server in the client and toggle the connection switch on.
- Once connected, the client shows a "Connected" status and your traffic is routed through the VPN.
Troubleshooting
- "Invalid access key" error: make sure you copied the entire key with no line breaks or trailing spaces.
- Key stopped working: keys are single-use per person and tied to your account — contact an administrator if you believe yours was revoked in error.
- Can't connect: check your device's network/firewall isn't blocking outbound traffic, then try again.
Keep your key private. Sharing it violates the terms and conditions you accepted and may result in revocation.
